Prunus x yedoensis
Yoshino Cherry is a hybrid cherry of unknown origin. Likely a cross between P. lannesiana (Oshimazakura) and P. pendula (Edohigan), the Yoshino Cherry has been planted all over the world in temperate climates. Most popular of the white flowering cherry trees, the Yoshino Cherry blooms in the Spring before its leaves emerge making for a spectacular show. These Japanese Cherry trees are famous for the early spring display at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. A smaller deciduous ornamental tree that at maturity only grows to be about 50 feet in height, they do well in full sun and moist, but well drained, soil. Yoshino Cherry trees are excellent trees for home landscaping, with a typical lifespan of 15 to 20 years.

What am I buying?
We sell Yoshino Cherries as rooted cuttings. Taken from Wikipedia, “a plant cutting is a piece of a plant that is used in horticulture for vegetative (asexual) propagation. A piece of the stem or root of the source plant is placed in a suitable medium such as moist soil. If the conditions are suitable, the plant piece will begin to grow as a new plant independent of the parent, a process known as striking.” Put more simply, a rooted cutting is a small clone of the specimen from which it was taken. As a genetically identical clone, the cutting shares all the characteristic traits and attributes of the cultivated variety. Our rooted cuttings are 3-6 months old and 4-8 inches in stem length above the soil line. They are clipped from our private stock plants and grown in root pruning trays at our temperature controlled greenhouse.
