Castanea dentata x mollissima ‘Sweet-Hart’

Practically a perfect cross between the the West Virginia American Chestnut and the Hawk Chinese Chestnut, the Sweet-Hart is a blight resistant variety that produces sweet chestnuts on par with the fabled American Chestnut lost to the 1906 Chestnut Blight. Boyd Nursery Company named the new chestnut the Sweet-Hart Chestnut in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Bert Harter after Mrs. Mary Harter agreed to the new name. For more information about the Sweet-Hart Chestnut and its origin, please visit www.japanesemaple.org. Planting instruction can be found at boydnursery.net/planting/.
