Yucca filamentosa

Adam’s Needle (also called Desert Candle, Devil’s Shoestring, Needle Palm, Spanish Bayonet, Spoonleaf Yucca, and Tattoo Plant) is a low evergreen shrub with stiff outward spreading leaves. This plant is a slow-growing native evergreen shrub that will stay relatively small. Beginning in May to June, a tall white flowering spike emerges from the center of the plant and displays prominently for several weeks. The flower may attract birds and butterflies, and can be used as a comedically large center piece flower indoors. Adam’s Needle may be used for foundation planting, ground cover or in a rock garden or border. This plant causes little to no allergy in the majority of people, and evokes a desert-like appeal. This plant does well in drained soil, and is known to survive in cold climates as far north as Minnesota. With its versatility in planting, and the aesthetically pleasing nature of the plant, Adam’s Needle is a great shrub for home landscaping. What am I buying?

We sell Adam’s Needle as tuberous roots. These roots resemble large potatoes, and will typically have green sprouts emerging from the top. The plants are individually collected from stands in the native landscape. Plants are 6-12 inches in overall length with 2-3 inches of growth above the soil line once set out. They are procured with help from our select list of local growers.

When are plants collected?

Once your order is placed, your plants will be collected as soon as the weather permits. This time-frame is normally within 3-7 days. During heavy order periods (April-May), this collection time can grow to 10-14 days.

How are plants shipped?

All shipments are mailed via USPS Priority Mail using PirateShip.com. We monitor national weather conditions and temperatures for shipments. If at any time your order must be delayed for weather concerns, we will contact you by phone and/or email. The day that your order is completed or partially shipped, you will receive an email containing your package tracking number.
