Abelia x grandiflora ‘Rose Creek’

Rose Creek Abelia is a cultivated hybrid Abelia produced by crossing Abelia chinensis with Abelia uniflora. It was discovered in a Abelia chinensis study commenced in 1997 by the Center for Applied Nursery Research in Dearing, Georgia. Named after Rose Creek in Oconee County, the cultivar is a multi-stemmed compact shrub with rounded, spreading, and sometimes gracefully arching branches. Rose Creek Abelia produces flowers in clusters that are white, tinged pink, and bell-shaped, and has attractive dark green foliage. Blooming from late summer to late autumn, it is often used as bank cover, massing, or small foundational plants. It is evergreen in hardiness zones 7a-9b, but can be classified as deciduous in zone 6 during severe winters. More planting instruction can also be found at boydnursery.net/planting/.

What am I buying?

We sell Rose Creek Abelia as rooted cuttings. Taken from Wikipedia, “a plant cutting is a piece of a plant that is used in horticulture for vegetative (asexual) propagation. A piece of the stem or root of the source plant is placed in a suitable medium such as moist soil. If the conditions are suitable, the plant piece will begin to grow as a new plant independent of the parent, a process known as striking.” Put more simply, a rooted cutting is a small clone of the specimen from which it was taken. As a genetically identical clone, the cutting shares all the characteristic traits and attributes of the cultivated variety. Our rooted cuttings are 3-6 months old and 4-12 inches in stem length above the soil line. They are clipped from our private stock plants and grown in root pruning trays at our temperature controlled greenhouse.
